CarbonTool is the bridge between “we should do something” and “we didand here’s the proof”.

How does the Carbon Tool by BuildGreen help us build a greener future?

CarbonTool shows every company two things at a glance: where you stand today versus your market, and what you need to do next. It’s the digital product of BuildGreen’s 15 years in sustainability taking everything we’ve learned from certifications, carbon reporting, and ESG strategy, and turning it into a simple, reliable platform. Instead of wrestling with spreadsheets and jargon, teams see a clean picture: your real footprint, how it compares to peers, and the fastest, most credible ways to cut it. CarbonTool helps you engage suppliers, test reduction ideas before you invest, and keeps every number traceable for audits. That means fewer surprises, quicker wins, and confident reporting. In short, CarbonTool moves companies from good intentions to measurable results clear priorities, clear timelines, and a clear path to hit near-term targets while staying aligned with evolving European rules. It’s the practical bridge between ‘we should do more’ and ‘we did and here’s the proof.

Why is it becoming essential in the current context of the climate crisis?

Climate change is a human-made problem, and it needs a human-led, tech-enabled response. The science is clear: carbon is the headline KPI in this fight. Data alone won’t move the needle; it has to be interpreted and turned into action. That’s where CarbonTool comes in. It centralizes your carbon data, applies AI to surface what matters, and translates it into credible targets and practical steps so companies, products, and services can measurably improve. You get a clear view of where you are, what to do next, and proof you’re on track. In a world of rising expectations, customers, investors, and regulators, CarbonTool is the ally for long-term alignment: faster decisions, transparent reporting, and real reductions.

Who is this tool primarily designed for: companies, public institutions, or individuals?

CarbonTool is built for doers organizations with a medium- to long-term vision, whether private, public, or NGOs. We designed it with and for our sustainability consulting clients who want profitable, practical progress, not short-term optics. If you’re serious about understanding your footprint, taking action, and staying ahead as these issues become more relevant to your market, CarbonTool is your operating system. It’s not a consumer app. It’s a platform for teams that need clarity, momentum, and proof: what matters, what to do next, and how to show results. When organizations act on credible data, communities and the environment benefit and so does the business.

What are the key data sources used to calculate the carbon footprint, and how is their accuracy ensured?

We combine the most trusted global sources IPCC, DEFRA, GHG Protocol, IEA, EPA, Ecoinvent and others with your real company data. CarbonTool can pull thousands of records from your books in seconds (ERP/SAF-T, invoices, assets, travel, procurement) and enrich them with supplier- and product-specific inputs for real-world precision. Every number is traceable back to source, with version control and evidence links so audits are straightforward and reporting is credible. It’s the best of both worlds: gold-standard factors + your actual operations. Backed by 15 years of BuildGreen expertise, the platform is continually updated to reflect new science and regulation. And next, we’re rolling out an embedded carbon-footprint audit bringing even more assurance into the product, so you can move from data to decisions with confidence

Could you share a concrete example of an organization or individual that has reduced emissions using this tool?

Let’s be candid: CarbonTool doesn’t cut emissions people do. Real reductions happen when leadership makes real-world decisions. Our job is to make those decisions obvious, fast, and defensible. A typical story: a national distributor used CarbonTool and saw clearly that transport was the hotspot. They pressure-tested scenarios (more EVs, optimized routing, supplier changes), picked a plan, and executed. They delivered the reduction; CarbonTool provided the clear picture, the options, and the proof. Where we do claim a hard number is efficiency: we’ve seen up to ~95% less effort in data collection versus manual workflows. That time savings is what lets teams focus on action closing the gap instead of chasing spreadsheets while keeping reporting CSRD-ready and audit-traceable.

Once someone discovers their carbon footprint, what are the recommended next steps? How do we move from measurement to action?

Think of it as a journey, not a stunt. First, we give you the complete picture then we show where you stand versus your market. Together we set realistic medium- and long-term targets (not just short-term promises), so reductions are ambitious and compatible with day-to-day operations. From there, CarbonTool helps you pressure-test options energy upgrades, supplier shifts, fleet changes so you see impact and budget before you commit. We turn that into a funded roadmap: clear priorities, timelines, owners, and checkpoints. No disruption theatre just steady, constructive progress at your team’s pace. As you implement, the platform keeps everyone aligned: track results, celebrate quick wins, adjust course, and keep reporting clean and credible. In short, we move you from ‘we measured’ to ‘we’re delivering’ with targets that make business sense today and stand up tomorrow.

Is there a version adapted for the general public, so that anyone can calculate their impact?

CarbonTool is made mainly for organizations, because all the major standards and reporting rules like CSRD, ESRS, GHG Protocol are built for companies, not individuals. So it’s not a personal carbon calculator. That said, everyone can access it to a certain extent. We have a Starter Pack a lighter version of the tool designed for small companies, individual professionals, or teams that are just starting their carbon journey. It keeps things simple, but still uses the same strong data, traceability, and logic as the full version. For the general public, the most powerful role is to choose low-carbon products and services. We don’t believe it’s fair to put the burden of decarbonization on individuals. Producers control the supply chain and make the big-impact decisions. But consumers can support this shift by choosing wisely and rewarding those who take real action.

How can this tool be integrated into other systems: mobility apps, e-commerce, or ESG reporting?

Our vision is to cover the whole carbon footprint loop from the organization itself to its buildings, products, and activities across every sector. That means understanding the connections and dependencies and collecting data from the most efficient sources, so it’s easier both for clients and for consultants. Right now, integration is simple: we can collect data from ERP system via API, or other specific sources like SAF-T export(mandatory accountancy report). CarbonTool can read that financial data purchases, assets, inventory, travel and automatically translate it into carbon emissions. So instead of building complex, custom links, the data flows naturally from finance into sustainability reporting. On top of that, we’re building the ability to integrate with mobility, logistics, and e-commerce systems to capture activity data directly, and then push results back into the client’s ecosystem. You’ll start to see these integrations rolling out soon. On the reporting side, CarbonTool already has dedicated modules aligned with CSRD, GRI, IFRS, and EU Taxonomy, so results are not only faster and easier, but also audit-ready.

As European legislation becomes stricter, how will the role of such tools evolve?

The demand is already here. For many companies, new rules look complex and overwhelming our role is to make them simple, clear, and manageable. CarbonTool centralizes the data, ensures traceability, and generates reports aligned with CSRD, EU Taxonomy, ESRS, GRI and beyond so compliance becomes a smooth process, not a burden. But it’s not only about Europe. Other regions are moving fast too you’d be surprised how advanced some countries already are. That’s why CarbonTool is built with a global perspective, ready to adapt to different frameworks and markets. As regulation tightens, these tools will move from being ‘nice-to-have’ to core business infrastructure: guiding strategies, testing pathways, and ensuring companies are not just compliant but also competitive and credible in a low-carbon economy.

If you were to describe in a few words the impact this tool could have on Romania over the next five years, what would those be?

Compliance, efficiency, competitiveness.

From my experience, Romania is often an early adopter sometimes out of a desire to prove we can do better, sometimes out of the competitive spirit of ‘we’re not good enough, so let’s leap ahead.’ That’s how Bucharest ended up hosting some of the world’s top sustainable buildings. I believe the same will happen with carbon. Romanian businesses will quickly see the competitive edge in the EU market, and CarbonTool’s role is to support and accelerate that journey: making compliance clear, reducing effort, and freeing companies to focus on real decarbonization. In five years, this will mean stronger trust, stronger competitiveness, and a stronger position for Romania in the low-carbon economy
